A Good Man is Hard to Find (And When you Finally Do, Forget him and run off
with that Handsome Lunatic you just Met)

Disclaimer: I do in fact own Gundam Wing. So there. And Trowa is my love slave.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hey! A pig just flew by, right outside
my bedroom window!

Warning: This fic may start out sounding serious and (maybe) well written, but
knowing myself as well as I do, it will probably get progressively more...
unbelievable. It's the kind of writer I am, and I apologise in advance. I try,
but I just can't write totally serious fics! It's a problem I have! Oh yeah, and
I'm planning on making this a 1xH fic. Hooray! I love it, though in reality I'm
a die-hard 1xR fan. Really. But we all need a change sometimes...

Prologue - I Hate Bad News...

A.C. 199

Vice Foreign Minister Relena Darlian stood on a podium in a spacious hall, her
features alight with happiness as the press went crazy, the lightbulbs from
their cameras popping in her face and momentarily dazzling her. She blinked and
took a breath before continuing the important announcement that had caused such
a riot. "Thank you. As I was saying, I am sure you are all wondering if we have
set a date for the wedding yet. In reality we have made no concrete plans, but
hope to be married within a year - "

A gunshot rang out, echoing down the halls of a run down apartment block on
colony L1.
Heero had seen the live broadcast of the press conference in which Relena had
made the revelation that she was getting married. To some fancy politician's son
whose name he'd forgotton already.
And he was upset.
Surprisingly, given the suicidal tendancies of his youth, the gun he fired was
not aimed at his head. He no longer considered it necessary to take his own life
- he had no mission to protect anymore. No, suicide was the cowards way out, and
Heero Yuy was no coward. He was, however, an angry, bitter, lonely young man,
which was why he chose instead to shoot the messenger. Namely the television.

How could Relena do this? Heero knew he hadn't seen her in about three years,
but... He had thought he meant something to her dammit! He squeezed his eyes
shut as if doing so would block out the pain. Relena had been the only person he
thought had accepted him for everything he was. He had thought she understood.
He supposed he had been wrong.
He needed to hit something.

After a few more minutes of mindless destruction which did nothing to ease his
frustration, Heero grabbed his laptop and sat on his bed, hoping to distract
himself with something, anything. He frowned, noticing he had mail. Although
none of his fellow gundam pilots knew of Heero's actual whereabouts, they did
have his email address. But they rarely contacted him anymore. They had
immediately after the incident with Marimeia, eager to meet up with him, telling
him of trivial news of no importance or interest to himself. He had never
replied, and they had all but given up, although Quatre still tried to reach him
every now and then. Surprisingly, this was a message from Duo Maxwell.

Upon opening the message, Heero's eyes narrowed. It was as if the entire world
wanted to mock him today.

Heero,

I know it's been a while, and I can't say I know what you're doing these days,
but the five of us pilots helped each other through some rough times back in the
war, and I had to write ya, buddy.
I'll just come out and say it. Hilde and I are getting married! Great, huh?
Anyway, all the other guys are gonna be there, even Wufei! And everyone would
like it if you came to the wedding. It'd mean a lot, man, so just think about it
okay?

If you're interested, it's at St. Josephs Church on L2, on Sunday the 25th.
That's in nine days. Come on, you know you want to...

Shinigami

Heero remembered with mild amusement how Duo often gave himself pseudonyms like
'The Great Destroyer'. Duo sure was arrogant.
He vaguely remembered Hilde - a strange girl, short hair, like a boys. Quite the
opposite to Duo's trailing braid. What were they getting married for? At
nineteen? Heero snorted in contempt. It wouldn't last... There was really no
point in going all the way to L2.
But still, Duo had been one of the only friends Heero had ever had. He certainly
didn't have any these days.
Perhaps he would go after all.

AN: I had to get Relena out of the picture somehow, y'know! At least for now...
mwaahaha... Yeah, I'm not exactly sure who'll end up with who, or whether it'll
have a happy or tragic end yet. Too early to tell. Hope y'all liked it!
