Sapphire Eyes
Chapter 11: Us?
By: Liewe
Standard disclaimers apply, Yanisha is the only personality I claim to own, and even then she is based on my late Great Aunt.

AN: *sniff* it’s almost over!

"Noin, what did you want to speak about," Quatre asked as he leaned against the thin trunk of a palm tree as he watched his horse graze. He could hear Noin moving about behind him, her movements jerky and tired.

"Us, I wanted to speak about us," Noin said softly as finally she settled down beside Quatre, her gaze following his.

"Us?"

"What you said affected me, and then Zechs arrived at what could be seen as the worst or best moment, I don't know. But I know I realized something," Noin said softly, her eyes closed as she leaned back in the grass, her hands behind her head.

"I can remember the exact moment I met Zechs, and the exact moment that my obsession began. Pathetic don't you think? But he was a big part of my life for so long, that it's hard not to think of him. It's been years since Zechs and I met, and for years I've been at his side. I've spent enough time in that man's company to warp anyone's mind." She sighed, pausing for a moment, catching her breath and re-organizing her thoughts.

"He was my first love, I'll never forget him, but we weren't meant to be, because he can't make my pulse race, or cause butterflies to appear in my stomach. Someone else has that privilege. And he's cemented in my mind more so than Zechs." She rolled onto her side to gaze at Quatre's profile, gauging his reaction to her words. Clueless, she thought, he was clueless.

"Do you know who he is Quatre?"

"No, but he's a very lucky man," Quatre said dejectedly, as he moved to rise, only to be stopped by Noin's hands.

"He was a soldier, a kind hearted soldier who always offered his opponents the chance to surrender. He accompanied me to space, and he was there for me when Zechs was trying to destroy the world. Does that help?" Noin asked softly.

"I still can't picture him," Quatre said with a smile, as he gazed hopefully into Noin's eyes.

"Well, he's sinfully rich, he has this gorgeous platinum hair, and these beautiful eyes which you could just gaze into for an eternity. He's kind and caring, and he's the noblest soul I've ever met. He used to pilot a Gundam," Noin said with a grin, "the Gundam Sandrock to be precise."

"The Gundam Sandrock you say? I think I know this lucky guy, would he perchance be of Arabic descent," Quatre asked as he leaned closer to Noin, his eyes sparkling with joy.

"So you know him," Noin said with a soft chuckle as she was pulled into Quatre's arms.

"I know him, and he's hopelessly in love with you, has been for years. He's a lost cause," Quatre said nuzzling Noin's neck.

"Well I'm hopelessly in love with him, so we're a perfect match. I think his matchmaking aunt would agree as well," Noin whispered, as she stole a kiss.

"Continue that and we'll stay out here all day," Quatre stated softly, as he brushed Noin's dark hair back from her face.

"Would that be so bad?"

"Mistress Yanisha," Rashid asked as he approached the elder Winner. "Do you know where Master Quatre has gone? His helicopter has been waiting for over a half hour."

"He's with Miss Noin. I wouldn't expect him back for a while," Yanisha answered with a wink, a sly grin crossing her features.

"I understand," Rashid answered with a chuckle. "I shall tell the helicopter pilot he is no longer needed."

"You do so," Yanisha answered as she began to retreat into her tent, towards the vid-phone.

"Yes, Mistress Yanisha."

It's about time, Yanisha thought as she dialed the phone number, which had been left for Midii Une-Barton. Her mind mentally congratulating itself.

"Hello, my name is Yanisha Winner, could I please speak with Midii Une-Barton?"

"Hello Yanisha, it's Midii, how may I help you?" Midii asked as she thoughtfully regarded the grinning woman on the screen.

"I just wanted to call and say, I don't think Quatre's going to be lonely anymore."

"It's going well?"

"Yes, I can feel it."

"That's great. I'll tell Trowa when he gets in; thanks for keeping us informed Yanisha. Have a good evening." Midii said softly, with a smile in her eyes.

"The same to you," Yanisha replied, closing the connection as she leaned back in her chair, her face still bright with joy.

Relena brushed her hair back from her face as she sat down in front of the vid-phone, her fingers anxiously brushing at her gown.

"Relena," Zechs said softly, his ice blue eyes full of apology.

"Milliardo..."

"It's nice to see you again. How are you?"

"I'm doing fine, Heero and Duo make sure of that," Relena said with a soft smile. "The cabinet isn't as bloodthirsty anymore either. Is Noin with you?"

"No, she's not," Zechs said, turning away for a moment as he struggled against the heartbreak. "We're not together anymore. It's for the best."

"Oh, Milliardo, I'm so sorry. Will you be going back to Mars?"

"No, I'm not going back there. Would it be ok, if I stayed with you for a while? We can make up for lost time maybe?"

"You're always welcome here," Relena said softly, tears forming in her clear crystal eyes.

"Thank you."

"When should I expect you?"

“Soon,” Zechs said softly, as he closed the connection, and he rested his head against the headrest, a hand running through is bangs. Noin was right, there were things for him on Earth, precious things. His last remaining family, and the chance for a new life.

“Soon,” he whispered to the empty Jeep. “Noin, I wish you and Quatre luck.”

Zechs continued to drive off into the horizon, his past love behind him, and a second chance ahead.
